HelpWire Now Offers Unattended Access on Linux

We’re thrilled to announce that HelpWire now supports Unattended Access on Linux, enhancing our existing unattended remote access options for Windows and macOS.

With a straightforward setup and user consent, operators can establish a remote connection to Linux devices at any time. As long as the device is powered on and online, access remains available even when the system is idle or the user is logged out.

Current support:

  • • Ubuntu 18.04 – 24.04 (DEB)
  • • CentOS 8/9, Fedora 41 (RPM)

Important note on X11 vs Wayland

  • X11: full unattended access, including the login screen.
  • Wayland: no login screen access (OS limitation).

Key Advantages:

  • Remote Work at Your Convenience: Connect to your Linux computers from home or the office whenever you need access.
  • 24/7 Client Support: Now, you can offer unattended support across multiple operating systems, including Linux.
  • Effortless Server Management: Manage and maintain remote servers without being on-site, saving you time and resources.

How to Set Up Unattended Remote Access

  1. Log in to your Web account, add a Client, and send them the HelpWire download link.
  2. Wait for the Client to launch the app.
  3. In your Web account, request unattended access for the Client’s workstation.
  4. The Client approves access on their side.
  5. After access is granted, you can reconnect anytime the workstation is on and online.
  6. The Client can revoke access anytime via the system tray menu, uninstalling the service.
